Build with what you have.
Not everything needs to be new. Exterior renovations are an excellent way to modernize and beautify your home. However, these new elements, which include exterior insulation solutions for reducing heat loss, adding a rain screen system to ensure weather protection, changing windows to add both appeal and save on heating costs, and to exchange old finishes with new exterior materials to enhance the building’s exterior appearance, must be carefully considered. Because exterior upgrades are not purely a beautification but are primarily a barrier and protective envelope, the envelope functioning correctly is critical to having an exterior renovation add value to a house. An exterior constructed correctly, and with consideration put towards both the assembly and design of the exterior, helps add a definite value to any existing asset, your home. But more importantly, it helps a house stay warm and dry, look great and ensures your house really looks and feels even more like home.
METHOD
When considering an exterior modification there is a method. These three prongs should be considered:
Determine reason for change. - Is the building having any failures, is the house too cold and/or is the exterior just needing a face lift?
Determine budget for change. - What is the budget for work and what are the possible costs involved in the work required? What is the most important work and how can it be completed effectively?
Determine the new appearance desired and how those changes can be made.
Not applying a method of evaluation with exterior work will always lead to very costly future replacement or repairs. Exterior work will add great value to a home, but it is an investment and needs to be treated properly.
